NEW ZEALAND ANNOUNCES 1st INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL
Joe Satriani, Uli Jon Roth of Scorpions, Gilby Clarke from Guns n' Roses
/ Rockstar, Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, Vernon Reid
of Living Colour, Alex Skolnick of Testament and fretless harp guitarist
Tim Donahue are heading up the G-TARanaki 1st International Guitar
Festival on July 14th -19th. All of these acts are giving exclusive NZ
shows, which involve full concert performances, workshops, forums and
jam sessions. Joe Satriani will be also giving fans an intimate "Club
Joe" workshop before his headline show whilst Matthew Marshall heads up
a six set contingent of shows from the New Zealand School of Music.
Venture Taranaki events development manager Garry Sharpe-Young says the
event is already proving historic. "Not only do we have these amazing
artists all coming out to Taranaki to perform, we have a number of
unique and never to be repeated collaborations, duets and jams
happening. Glenn Hughes is playing a full electric set with a unique
Kiwi band featuring guitar virtuoso Kara Gordon and Vernon Reid will be
playing with some of New Zealand's finest too. The musical spread of the
event is huge - Metal, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk and Classical. Many of
these artists are breaking US tours to play here, so we are honoured."
One of the most exciting things is Uli Jon Roth's fabled "Sky Academy".
A huge success in Los Angeles, Uli is now bringing this amazing
experience out to Taranaki and working directly with aspiring young
guitarists in our regional schools in Waitera, Inglewood and Opunake.
"It's truly incredible he is doing this and, of course, working with
such high profile special guests as Gilby Clarke and Vernon Reid" says
Sharpe-Young. "We have further artist announcements still to come".
G-TARanaki is the latest in a line of event surprizes captured by the
region, including exclusive shows by Motorhead and Sir Elton John.
Glenn Hughes commented "I am really excited and honoured to be invited
back to New Zealand, a place I haven't played since the heady days of
Deep Purple in 1975. Taranaki sounds both intriguing and wonderful, and
my role as a musician is to entertain, inspire and at times- educate, so
to be able to meet, play, talk and interact with the local musicians and
musical youth of the country will be a very rewarding and memorable
experience for me." Alex Skolnick said about G-TARanaki "Being in the
land of the Kiwis, rocking and rolling hard alongside some of the giants
is all this humble guitarist can ask for."
G-TARanaki is topped off by two mega concerts at the TSB Stadium on
Friday July 18th and Saturday July 19th. Tickets are on sale from
Ticketek on April 28th.

An Audience with the Devil 6
Each year, a call rings out over the seedy streets of Auckland City and into the dark underbelly of the New Zealand music scene. Each year that call is heeded and the masses to whom it is directed make their charge towards an event like no other in Aotearoa.
An Audience with the Devil is New Zealand's premier festival of metal. First beginning in 2003, the event has showcased some of the best extreme local and international metal bands to an increasingly bloodthirsty and avaricious audience and has gone on to become one of the largest and most recognized underground metal festivals in Australasia. Now in its sixth yearly incarnation, An Audience with the Devil once more brings a pulsating night of the most extreme music in the world to the City of Sails, and the 2008 line-up promises to be more savagely dark and horrifying than any before it.
Tasmanian alternative death metallers PSYCROPTIC and blackended death tyrants RUINS will both make the trans-ditch journey to perform at An Audience with the Devil 6 as 2008's international headliners, in addition to a strong contingent of among the best New Zealand metal has to offer; with world exports DAWN OF AZAZEL and ULCERATE joining Aucklanders SINATE, FORCED TO SUBMIT and SUBTRACT, Wellingtonians ORNITHOLOGIST, MAGNUM OPUS, METAL TOWER and AETHEA, and Cantabrians VIXEN EXECUTION.
PRESS RELEASE CONCERNING MAYHEM AND NAZXUL'S WITHDRAWAL
It is with deep regret that we have to announce that due to a combination of Australian immigration problems and other logistical issues related to the Australian wing of the Ordo Ad Chao Tour; Mayhem's scheduled NZ date at An Audience with the Devil 6 has been withdrawn and the band have been forced to reschedule the Oz/NZ tour as a whole until later in the year. This was something completely outside the influence or control of RW Entertainment, and something we are NOT happy about.
Unfortunately it gets worse. As has been speculated on the internet recently, Aussie black metallers Nazxul will also now not be performing at An Audience with the Devil 6. This was completely unrelated to the withdrawal of Mayhem, was a totally separate logistical issue, and is something the Nazxul guys have expressed deep regret over; particularly given the buzz that arose from the announcement that they would be playing the fest.
In light of these events, we will now be merging the two night event into a single night on FRIDAY MAY 16th, still at Transmission Room. The original two day passes have ceased to be available; existing purchases can either be refunded in full via origin of sale or held on to and given a partial refund at the reformatted event. New single day pre-sales will be available from next week at a significantly lower price point, and the line-up/scheduling for the night will also be announced next week.
To those who've already purchased tickets, and to those who were looking forward to the first-time arrival of Mayhem and Nazxul on NZ shores - our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience. We hope that you will still make it along on Friday May 16th for what still promises to be an excellent and fulfilling night of metal, drinking and debauchery in the heart of Auckland City.

By The People, For The People affords Mudvayne a chance to give back to their loyal fans that have stood by them throughout their entire career, one that exploded in 2000 with the release of the MTV2-award winning video, “Dig.” This album spotlights the disruption of traditional media and the band’s desire to further connect with their fans.
Every Mudvayne studio album has received gold certification including Mudvayne’s last release, 2005’s “Lost And Found,” which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and generated the hit single, “Happy?” which skyrocketed to take the #1 spot at radio and remained there for an incredible 10 weeks. www.rockdetector.com's Garry Sharpe-Young publishes his latest book 'Thrash Metal' on September 1st. To view front cover, featuring a previously unseen live shot of Cliff Burton and James Hetfield of Metallica in their club days, click here http://www.zondabooks.com/ Details on the Zonda Books site also include a full listing of all bands included.
'Thrash Metal' is over 400,000 words and over 450 pages of detailed biography, line-ups and discography - including release date, label, catalogue number and track listings.
In addition, Zonda Books publishes Garry's 'Death Metal', 'Black Metal' and 'Power Metal' all before the end of the year. These MusicMight titles replace the 2001 editions, which have consistently ranked number 1 on their Amazon.com searches for five years and more.
In the early 80s Thrash breathed new life into the Rock scene providing older acts with a much needed kick. This new force opened the floodgates to armies of teens armed with flying Vs, bullet belts and a sense of purpose that would fuel genres such as Thrashcore, Crossover and technical Speed Metal. Without Thrash there would be no Death Metal, no Black Metal. That explosion of aggression has seen subsequent afterblasts, most recently Europe and South America has seen a genuine renaissance of Thrash Metal.
Without doubt, Thrash Metal still continues to make its mark in the biggest possible way. The 'big four'—Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are all documented here in the greatest possible detail. The author has interviewed all these major acts. Indeed, he interviewed Metallica's late Cliff Burton just days before his passing. The early days of Megadeth are straight from the mouth of Dave Mustaine.
Also covered are the legion of groundbreaking Bay Area acts such as Metal Church, Testament, Exodus, Death Angel and Hirax. The European Thrash explosion of Kreator, Rage, Destruction, Sodom, Grave Digger and Helloween is also covered in frightening detail. The Pagan Thrash of Sabbat, the avant garde eccentricity of Celtic Frost and the Funk Thrash of Morded—it's all here. The second wave of Thrash with major artists such as Sepultura, Pantera and Machine Head takes the genre right up to the new breed of Thrashers, now a truly world-wide phenomomen. All examined in depth.
Having achieved its quarter of a century, Thrash Metal is not only alive, it is thriving. If you thought this rawest form of Heavy Metal was consigned to the past this book will deliver a rude awakening! Read the book, buy the records and bang that head!!
Ex-GIRLSCHOOL Guitarist KELLY JOHNSON Dead At 49 - July 16, 2007
Veteran British female hard rockers GIRLSCHOOL have posted the following
message on their official web site:
"It is with extreme sadness to tell you that Kelly Johnson ..
original
member of GIRLSCHOOL, passed away on Sunday the 15th of July after fighting
a six-year battle with cancer of the spine."
Along with Johnson, the classic lineup of GIRLSCHOOL included Kim McAuliffe
(guitar), Enid Williams (bass) and Denise Dufort (drums). The band was an
integral and major force in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM)
movement, beginning with the release of its debut album, "Demolition"
(1980), and continuing with the follow-up efforts, "Hit 'n' Run" (1981) and
"Screaming Blue Murder" (1982).
Johnson originally left GIRLSCHOOL in 1984 after recording the band's fourth
album, "Play Dirty", and moved to Los Angeles where she lived for the next
10 years. She rejoined GIRLSCHOOL in 1993 and moved back to the U.K. From
1993 until 2000 Kelly, Kim, Denise and Tracey Lamb toured Europe and the USA
and recorded a live album in March 1995. Kelly decided to quit the music
business for good in 2000 after recording her final album with GIRLSCHOOL,
"Not That Innocent: 21st Anniversary" (2001).

Stuck Mojo Debuts Video for "I'm American," New Web Site and Podcast
ATLANTA, GA - Following up on the success of their controversial, anti-jihadist music video for the song "Open Season," Stuck Mojo released today the video for "I'm American" from their new album "Southern Born Killers." In addition, they also unveiled a redesigned web site and the new "Mojo Mindset" podcast series at www.StuckMojo.us.
Stuck Mojo was thrust into the national spotlight earlier this year when the "Open Season" video caught the attention of the blogosphere. Not only was it unusual to see a hard rock band take a pro-American stance, the message of the track was very clear - "we will not simply surrender to those who wish to do us harm." While some would try to claim that the song was anti-Islamic, the lyrics proved this untrue. It is clearly anti-jihadist. Some were so incensed that they accused the band of racism. This is especially ironic considering that jihadists are not a race and the fact that Stuck Mojo is a multi-cultural, multi-racial band themselves!
The controversy was fostered by YouTube denying the video its rightful placement on their most-viewed lists. Google video simply banned the track due to a few of the still images of the jihadists in action. Surprisingly, Stuck Mojo found a new audience in the hundreds of thousands who also were tired of the politically-correct, left-leaning music industry. Guitarist and songwriter Rich Ward appeared on several, national talk shows as well as Fox News" "The Big Story with John Gibson" to clarify the band"s message.
While not as controversial, "I'm American" does find the band once again making it clear, in no uncertain terms, that they are proud of the qualities that has made their country great and the people who have fought and died for its foundation and defense. In today's climate of self-hatred in the music business, where bands openly flaunt their shame at being Americans, Stuck Mojo once again refuses to go with the flow. As with "Open Season" the message of "I'm American" is clear - "we may have our problems and differences, but all are welcome to come and stand with us in freedom."
Stuck Mojo is an Atlanta-based band that is recognized as pioneers in the blending of hard rock and hip-hop. Over their 15-year career they have released several, full-length albums and have toured the world continuously. Their new album, "Southern Born Killers," is available for download, in its entirety, via the band's web site at www.StuckMojo.us. A CD version including bonus DVD is also available for purchase.

NAPALM DEATH GUITARIST DIES
FREE DOWNLOADABLE ALBUM IN MEMORY OF JESSE PINTADO
To honour the passing of the long-term recording artist Jesse Pintado, Earache Records is offering a free downloadable mp3 album. The album entitled ‘In Memory Of Jesse Pintado’ features some of Jesse’s most well-known songs recorded during his time as guitarist for both Napalm Death and Terrorizer.
The sad news of Jesse’s death in hospital in Holland on Sunday August 27th 2006 has shocked fans throughout the world, and this album serves as our small tribute to the outstanding music he created during his career.
Earache label manager Dan Tobin had the following to say about Jesse’s sudden death:
‘Jesse was one of the most genuine people I ever met, extremely friendly and easy-going. Its such a tragic waste. I’ll remember him as part of what is my all time favourite Earache record, Terrorizer’s ‘World Downfall’, which is simply a grindcore masterpiece, and for all his amazing work with Napalm Death that I was honoured to be a small part of. I don’t think Jesse’s passing has been recognised as the huge loss it is – the worlds of extreme music and grindcore/death metal have lost a true pioneer. We owe him a massive debt and for that I’ll always remember the guy fondly.’
The mp3 album can be downloaded at www.metaltracks.com/jesse, the full track listing is as follows:
01. Terrorizer - Ripped To Shreds
02. Napalm Death - The World Keeps Turning
03. Napalm Death - Throwaway
04. Terrorizer - Storm Of Stress
05. Napalm Death - Upwards And Uninterested
06. Napalm Death - I Abstain
07. Terrorizer - Corporation Pull-In
08. Napalm Death - Purist Realist
09. Napalm Death - Remain Nameless
10. Napalm Death - Inner Incineration
It appears that the folks at E! are producing a show called "25 Most Chilling Hollywood Murders" and actually hit up the Pantera camp about licensing footage of Dimebag and want to re-enact his murder.
Below is only part of the response Jane Hoffman sent E!.
"I ask that take a moment from your busy days and close your eyes. Live out the fantasy of playing your favorite instrument onstage.
Your closest friends surround you, either in the band or in your crew. From one side of the stage, a man approaches. Thinking he's a security guy or a drunk fan who's just a bit out a line, you continue to perform.
Two seconds later, he lifts his arms, aims a rifle at your brother, your best friend, your buddy and blows his brains out, not three feet from where you are. In the nanosecond it takes you to comprehend the magnitude of what just happened, he does it again ...and again ...and again ...and again before taking aim and murdering additional members of your extended family as well as fans that have come to see you play.
Two of your crew are shot but survive, but of course, will never be the same again.
Now imagine it's a few years later and you turn on the TV set. Just in case you may be having at least a five minute respite from that scene that plays over and over in your head, just in case ..... you flip through the channels and there it is.
Again. Only with some two bit actor who thinks this is his big Hollywood break..
The answer is no, and on behalf of everyone that was there that night and everyone that misses him every day, you can take that no and shove it up your collective asses."
